Server and core: version ranges on both sides with a coded refusal; a
client id maps to the same member and token for the server's life; a
drop is `gone` for a 10-minute grace keeping ready, presence, queue
items, relay and avatar; `bye` leaves at once; ordered takeover (seq,
replaced/stale); presence joining/in/away/gone with one PresencePolicy;
joiners never pause playback and hold a held gate at most ~15 s;
state.hold; feed ids, seq and replay; the relay lives through its
source's grace and continues on re-dial; queue `by` lasting, auto
items and cancel; MediaRef carried; client ids never logged.
App: persisted client id and seq; Connection with unstable/lost/
replaced states, backoff with jitter, no lost/back pair per flap; a drop
keeps the session (state, player, media, relay source); presence in the
strip and members card; sit out = away intent; feed matched by id;
auto sit-out (idle when not playing, minimised for a while; never when
alone) replaces auto-unready; bye on close and Leave, not on update
restart; relay source re-dials through its grace.

Logs: one redaction pass (query strings to names, member tokens,
passwords, cookies, auth headers) for every line; daily files with size
and age caps in the app (hosted server included) and the dedicated
server (--log-dir); swaps, relay channels, per-member /r /m /j outcomes,
server fetches, mpv load errors, yt-dlp runs. Settings > About: Copy
diagnostics, Open logs folder.
Bilibili through someone else: the viewer opened /r/ before the source
dialled in; the server holds that request and mpv gives up after 5 s
("could not be opened"). Viewers now open a member relay once it is
live, the putter starts its source before its own player, and track
sizes are read in parallel.

The server keeps one small relay (32 MiB ahead, 8 behind) for Up next's
first relayed item, keyed by its queue id at a URL that stays the same
after the swap: fetched by the server for server-fetch links, fed by
the adder's app for through-me links and files, by a member with an
account for member-passed Jellyfin items. Every app preloads from it;
the swap promotes it with its buffer. Dropped when the item stops
being first or its adder leaves. Measured switch: ~1.6 s cold, 20-40 ms
preloaded. ROADMAP gains the research item on server-side fetching of
member-resolved URLs.

Up next: a server-side queue anyone edits by item id (add at end or
next, move, remove, play now, skip); each item says who added it and
how it plays. At the real end the first item swaps in after the end
card's countdown, put up by whoever can (its adder for through-me links
and files, someone with access for Jellyfin, else anyone); items that
can't play are skipped with the reason. The next item's link is
resolved ahead. Greyed "Continues with" episodes below. A chip with the
controls opens it as a popover (leaf_widgets, local path dependency for
now); "Add to queue" next to Put it up everywhere.
Delivery: the server measures the source's rate, the media's bitrate
and each member's read rate; the members card shows a source line
(who passes it on, through what, keeping up or not, source left) and
each member's route and buffer. A slow source is told once per media.
A failed server fetch is announced to everyone.

A track can be served as pieces: the server writes a VOD playlist whose
entries are its own piece URLs (segments, init maps, AES-128 keys; byte
ranges folded in; yt-dlp's DASH fragments become the same list). A piece
buffer per track fills like the byte buffer. Picks a single file, then a
split byte pair, then pieces. DRM, live, master playlists are refused.

Anyone can sit anyone out (host included); only you bring yourself back.
Out members stay in chat and the party, never block or count, and load no
media; a card with the live position and Join back (Space) replaces the
video. The mini player's x sits you out; optionally idle does too. Nudge:
the server forwards it to the target only (3/s, 20/min per sender); the
target hears the nudge sound, gets a toast and a taskbar attention
request. Kick, its messages, errors and dialog are gone.

Relayed media can carry 2-4 byte tracks (video, audio): yt-dlp picks a
split pair when no single-file format exists (h264 first), the source
channel serves each track, the server keeps a buffer per track (budget
split by size, 8 MiB floor) and viewers open an mpv edl:// of the track
URLs. Expired URLs re-resolve once for all tracks. Upstream GETs are cut
into <= http_chunk_size (10 MiB) ranges: YouTube throttles larger ones.
Live streams and DRM are refused; HLS/DASH pieces are a follow-up.

yt-dlp: a managed, checksum-verified, daily-updated yt-dlp in the app and
the dedicated server (--[no-]yt-dlp, --yt-dlp-dir). Pasted links are
probed: direct files stay links, pages are resolved for title, uploader,
duration and thumbnail. Everyone fetches it: mpv's ytdl hook on the
managed copy. I pass it on / the server fetches it: the best single-file
format, re-resolved once when its URL expires. Relay names never split
the /r/ path; viewers of server-fetched pages wait for the relay to go
live. No wire change.
Icon: two stars orbiting a play button (assets/icon/icon.svg, PNGs, the
Windows .ico). GTK app id moe.senkochan.watch_together; release builds
install their .desktop file and icons into ~/.local/share so Wayland
shows the icon; the window icon is set for X11. README shows the icon.

Viewers who cannot reach the media get it through the server: a file on
any member's computer, a link passed on by a member ("Through me") or
fetched by the server ("Server fetches it", password-protected servers
only), and Jellyfin items for guests without an account, sourced by
whoever put them up with their own sign-in (or a pasted link's key),
which never leaves their machine. Fixes guests on a dedicated server
without a Jellyfin login being blocked.
The source dials /r/.../source (works behind NAT) and answers pulls with
an adaptive in-flight window (2 x rate x min RTT, 256 KiB..8 MiB). The
server keeps a memory-only buffer of 1 MiB slices sized like a viewer's
mpv buffer (pinned head/tail, 64 MiB back, 256 MiB ahead), fills it with
one sequential pull at a time (blocked viewers first, newest request
only), fetches nothing while nobody watches through it, and drops it on
the next swap or stop. Measured with mpv through shaped links
(tool/relay_e2e.dart): 400 Mbit/s seeks ~0.03 s; 40 Mbit/s no stalls,
3 viewers cost the source ~1x the bytes.
