# RoomWalker - Another New Locomotion System! (PN8h4rGf1IM, 565s)
it's me n so welcome back to another VR video today's video is a very short one uh it's just about an idea that I had um for for Locomotion now the other day I was watching well the other day this like 2 3 weeks ago I I I I worked on this locco system for a day uh but it wasn't it wasn't today it was a little bit ago I working um I was watching a video uh titled walking around Skyrim now what you might notice uh when when you see videos like this there's there's a bunch of videos like this where people kind of walk around the games that they play and um what they do is they they kind of walk in the distance that they want to and then they turn using the analog stick and then turn in the real world and continue walking in the distance in the direction they were going in game right so I thought maybe there's a better way to do this right maybe I could write a local system that'll allow you to do that automatically uh with minimal effort or or no thinking at all really and um excuse me and I'm kind of breathing loudly because the headset just leans in all the wrong ways right just lift this off my face and I'll be happy that's what I kind of do when I place my headset you might notice my face is kind of always making these stupid blooming it doesn't matter anyways so Locomotion now you may know I I build a bunch of locomotion systems in the past uh a bunch of that's that's a lie I've built uh two Locomotion systems so far one is my regular Loco system that I use in in pretty much every video that I I build in VR where um my hybrid Locomotion system where you kind of physically move in place walk in place or jog in place and you move in whatever Direction your controller is telling you to go I made a different version of that which was called exploration uh because it was all about sort of exploring rather than game mechanic friendly it's not super efficient uh and you kind of use the position in the game playay Space in your in your VR space in your room uh to to direct that system and then the same thing as before where you kind of sway or or jog in place and that gives you full directional control without the controllers right brilliant but this one is intending to do something completely different there's no swaying or or walking system at all all it does is assume that whatever Direction you want to go in you push you push the analog stick is the direction you're going to physically walk and that means you actually have to perform the physical space so look carefully you can see that I push the left analog stick and I go absolutely nowhere but this is directing which direction the system will allow me to move and all I do then is I physically walk so I'm going to push forward I physically walk in that direction well you know what we'll do it that way so that we're not going down a hill I physically walk in that direction and then that's the axis I want to move in so all I have to do is then continue the amount of distance that I want to move going backwards and as you see in the end I get the actual movement that I want it's so ridiculous it's so ridiculous so there we go I get the physical movement that I want and I have to perform the actual distance that I'm I'm moving right so all I do is tell it what direction I want to go and then I just keep walking wonderful it works and and it does exactly what I wanted it to do which is it allows you to use your entire room s space um and you're never getting any actual fake locco right you're never actually moving in place using a loo system you're just physically performing the distance you want to perform so for example if I want to walk all the way to that yellow thing and this is going to take a little while because you are physically walking all of that distance right there we go and of course it takes speed into account so you can just kind of speed it up a little bit but it's a little bit much more it's a little bit much more that doesn't make sense it it's much more Awkward that way when you're trying to because you have to change direction constantly right in your real world uh but but the point here is I'm not having to hold my head and and rotate everything and I'm not constantly losing my orientation when I'm when I'm rotating using the fake stick to do this instead I'm just I'm just walking in the axis that I want right and I never have to think about it I push the analog stick once in the direction I want to go it I'm holding in that direction and I just move I just walk naturally and even if I go sideways right I'm still pushing forward I go sideways it allows me to do that it's not cutting out all of my motion I'm getting the actual room scale movement that I want but any backwards movement is swapped to forward movement that's it and it it just does it right so there we go and I can just walk into this little area here and carry on right I don't how far am i this way all well that's fine and again it it's directional right so I can I can face that way if I want to and walk backwards so there we go perfectly fine you can you can just I'm I'm pushing it down I'm pushing the analog stick down and move backwards that's it it just works as you want it to it's it's a very simple idea but I thought okay how do I turn this concept of physically walking using the space that you do have to to align it in the direction you want to go in the game world right so how do I actually do that and there we go I did it right so now you can just you just naturally walk the way you want to right you don't you don't even have to rotate it right you can just walk the way you want or you can just come up here you can walk the way you want go back down again obviously if you have a larger space this becomes a lot more a lot more usable and a lot more efficient but there you go like it's it's about making use of the space you do have and your end results are just beautiful it's just absolutely wonderful the ability to physically walk the whole distance especially if you know your space I know my space very well cuz I I use VR constantly and uh yeah just it becomes really easy to to do it the way you want it's a little bit unusual right it's very very unusual actually but you get into this and it gives you the the literal thing that that these often a YouTube video is trying to do which is to actually test physically walking the space that you're looking at but this is just doing it this is just doing it through a local system it's so it's such a simple idea as well it really is uh if you're wondering what's this world this world is is just the the starting point the makings of a recreation of the sunbox world that I I normally use I'm working on a on a project TX demo this is going to be Quest compatible so what you're looking at here this is there's no post processing for the first time in one of my videos for a long long time there's no post processing there's a a much more simplified Shader everything's as simple as possible I'm just using Dynamic Shadows right now just for now for testing but again I'm going to simplify down to mobile friendly uh for for this build and it'll still be viable to to then upgrade it to a PC version without any e effort but uh but there we go yeah uh thanks very much for watching that's that's the idea I might I'll I'll try and put a buildup of this as well uh soon but in the end project TX will have each of my local motion systems integrated anyway so you'll be able to use the exploration mode where you just physically walk whatever whatever Direction you want to in your physical space and then just use the local system or you'll be able to just use your regular you know joystick movement or you'll be able to use the regular hybrid or you'll be able to test this out as well just sort of walking naturally using your space um but there we go one one unusual idea after another as you as you expect from from NSO thanks very much for watching I'll see you in the next video goodbye
